Do You Know What Beer Is?
By: Darren Williger
Do you know what exactly beer is? Beer has been in existence for many, many years and is amongst the oldest alcoholic drinks around. Besides, it is known to be the most favored beverage ever to be made. An alcoholic drink is one that has ethanol as one of its ingredients and is generally called alcohol. A few ancient chronicles of history contain details of beer being made and distributed, thus confirming its status as amongst the oldest beverages in existence. Nearly all historical accounts contain some details about beer.
Earlier, beer was predominantly favored by men but most women also enjoy having it. Most people prefer having it as the drink of their choice and it’s regularly had just like juice and soda. Quite a few people are of the opinion that having beer has a beneficial effect on health, as long as you don’t go over the top with it. Hence, in all probability, beer will continue to enjoy its status as one of the well liked drinks ever served. There are four chief ingredients that go into brewing beer
- malted grains
- hops
- yeast
- water.
Making Beer
Beer is manufactured by using an assortment of ingredients, based on the place of manufacture. Beer results from the fermentation of the sugars obtained from materials containing starch used in its manufacture. Malted barley is one kind of starch-containing material that’s commonly used. Hence, this is the reason they are sometimes called malted beer. Along with barley other ingredients are frequently used like rice, corn, and wheat. In addition, you can also discover other ingredients like fruits and herbs in several brands of beer.
Now, the material containing starch that’s being employed will be kept in water in order that the enzymes present in the malt start to break up the starch molecules. A sugary liquid called wort is the product of this. Hops, which serve as a natural preservative, are used to flavor this sugary liquid. Then the yeast is put into the mixture to bring about fermentation so as to produce alcohol as also other waste products. This entire process is known as brewing beer. In beer brewing, the ingredients and process employed is instrumental in classifying it as ale or lager.
Beer of the Present Day
At one time beer was a plain beverage that was produced in only a limited range. These days things are no longer the same. When you wish to have a beer, you will come across such a wide range of choices that at times it becomes slightly difficult to make up your mind regarding which one to purchase.
A lot of them are mixed together to create stimulating new drinks while others are just poured into chilled glasses for you to relish. Regardless of the way it’s served, everybody enjoys beer and it’s doubtful this will ever be different. Therefore, you can look forward to beer continuing to make waves in the annals of history.
